Three of Scotland’s most accomplished songwriters have collaborated on a brand new track, ‘Better Than I’ve Ever Been‘, to be released on Friday, 6 November.
Co-written by Laura Silverstone and BBC award-winning songwriter Mike McKenzie, the recording features a powerful duet between 2026 Celtic Connections ‘Danny’ award winner Laura, and Glaswegian artist Andrew Duncan.
Laura and Mike met as part of the same open mic scene in Edinburgh years ago, stayed in touch, admired each other’s work, and decided to come together to write this gorgeous track.
Laura and Andrew’s paths first crossed while they were both performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where a creative spark inspired their first proper collaboration. Andrew, who is now usually based in London for his songwriting, also recently supported Laura’s headline show at The Poetry Club at SWG3 in Glasgow.

With ‘Better Than I’ve Ever Been’, Laura and Andrew bring two vulnerable perspectives together through their shared feelings and emotionally charged performances.
Laura explains: “We wanted to write a song with a twist on the pursuit of happiness and how sometimes it comes from difficult decisions. There are times when letting go of an idea or a person can be the ultimate path to happiness, even when it feels wrong at first.”

Recorded this year and mixed and mastered by formerly Grammy nominated Bob Vogston at Lipaka Studios in Germany, the track will appear on Laura’s forthcoming new album.
It follows previous singles ‘Dream On’ (featured by BBC Introducing), the neurodiversity inspired ‘Morning Pink’ (accompanied by her debut music video), the acoustic ‘Raven On A Tree’, and her take on Bruce Springsteen’s ‘I’m On Fire’, which Roddy Hart called a “gorgeous” reimagining, and her latest single, ‘September’, released on her birthday.
Featuring acoustic guitar, percussive guitar, piano, bass, drums, violin and viola, it is for fans of Amistat, Ben Howard, Kim Churchill and Hollow Coves.
The former Spain’s Got Talent finalist has two upcoming shows in Glasgow at Celtic Connections, where she won the Danny Kyle Open Stage Award in January, with dates to be announced.
They will be followed by a headline show and album launch in Edinburgh in March 2027, accompanied by a UK and European album tour.

She recently performed headline shows in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Details will be announced on her official website at laurasilverstone.com where fans can sign-up to her official newsletter for updates.
